Even back in 1792, Pridnestrovie did not share its government with Moldova. The Dniester River separated the two, and that was the main attraction for the Armenian settlers who founded their colony and named it Grigoriopol.

Today, the town is a district center and one of the smaller towns in Pridnestrovie. It has a little more than 20,000 inhabitants, most of them ethnic Moldavians and ethnic Ukrainians ...as well as many descendants from the original Armenian settlers. Most dwellers live in single family housing, although the town center is dominated by apartment blocks of three to four stories. The town has five elementary schools and two high schools.

The town's business activities include a cannery and a quarry producing gravel.

The majority of Grigoriopol's inhabitants work in agriculture. The town's surrounding villages are picturesque and it is recommended that you spend some time exploring the beautiful countryside. Locals are friendly and more often than not you will be invited to share a meal or a bottle of wine, at no cost to you. - Grigoriopol's locals just want to show you their famous hospitality..!
